Awesome "Lupang Hinirang" Animated Music Video

Independence Day doesn't end until three hours from now, so this animated music video of the Philippine National Anthem is apropos.

What a great project from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and Rock Ed Radio. Credits go as well to Radioactive Sago Project who performed the music, and Arnold Arre who animated and directed the video.

ADMU Blue Eagles, Lady Spikers Triumph In Separate Tournaments

Manny Pacquiao lost via split decision yesterday, but I couldn't care less because Ateneo teams won championships on the same day.

The Blue Eagles started things off with their second Fr. Martin Summer Cup win in three years:

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles got big baskets from Nico Salva and Kiefer Ravena in overtime to beat the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers, 98-92, and snare the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup last Sunday at the St. Placid Gym in San Beda.

It was the Blue Eagles’ second crown in the tournament since they last won it at the expense of the Mapua Cardinals two years ago.

Salva and Ravena had 16 and 12 points, respectively, and their baskets in the final minute of overtime kept the Bombers at bay after JRU threatened one last time, 90-all, off a jumper from Ron Carampil.

A couple of hours later, it was the Lady Spikers' turn to successfully defend their Shakey’s V-League first conference title:

MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo racked up two crucial points to put away University of Santo Tomas for good, 25-19, 25-14, 17-25, 20-25, 15-13, and nab another title Sunday in the 9th Shakey’s V-League first conference at the Arena in San Juan city.

Tied at 13-all in the fifth set, the Lady Eagles pounced on a costly error from the Tigresses, then Dzi Gervacio delivered the match-sealing point for their back-to-back championship.

Alyssa Valdez, whose presence for Ateneo has been invaluable even in the UAAP, was fittingly adjudged the Finals MVP as she churned out another commendable performance with 22 points—19 off kills and two off aces.

And here are the Lady Spikers clowning around to "Call Me Maybe".

Most of the footage was apparently shot right before Game 1 of the V-League finals, where they took the first set but lost in four. Make of that what you will.

I can watch that video over and over, if only because of scene-stealing head coach Roger Gorayeb. The Blue Eagles head coach, Norman Black, has nothing on him in terms of comic antics.

GPOY: Where We Were Last Year

A year ago today two of our friends married each other. Here's a photo of the (incomplete) gang clowning around at the reception.

I found it amusing then that our friends decided to tie the knot the day before Independence Day. Their wedding giveaway was a nostalgic treat: a package containing childhood favorites Orange Swits, Goya Chocolate Coin, Haw Flakes, Peter's Butter Ball, Lala Milk & Chocolate, Flat Tops, Tarzan Bubble Gum, Frooty Bubble Pop, Kendi Mint, Judge Chewing Gum, Stay Fresh Menthol Candies, Goya Chocolate, and Vi-Va Caramel Sweets.

2012 Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup Jerseyvaluation: UST Growling Tigers

Is this the year UST finally has a cool-looking jersey? Let's hope so. The ones they're using in the 2012 Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup are a good start.

What's Basha's Mix?

I'm late to the party as usual, but here's my take on the Bayo "What's your mix?" meme.

Oo, ganyan siya katigas.

Yes, I watched that movie. I'm not even ashamed.

2012 Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup Jerseyvaluation: FEU Tamaraws

The FEU Tamaraws have the same jersey template as Ateneo and La Salle, but who cares? We're still in the preseason.

Instant Classic Concert Poster

This poster for the Malayang Pilipino – Independence Day Concert is so kickass I had to post it on this blog. (It would've been easier if I were on Tumblr; I could've just reblogged this.)

Awesome, just awesome. I don't know who made it, but the poster art reminds me somehow of Arnold Arre's work. I'll investigate further.

Meanwhile, here's a promotional video featuring most of the acts slated to perform in the free concert organized by Kalayaan 2012 and Rock Ed Philippines.
