UAAP Season 75: Bo Perasol Can Now Accept The ADMU Blue Eagles Head Coaching Job

It looks like it's fait accompli that Bo Perasol will be the Ateneo Blue Eagles' head coach starting next season.

The former Powerade Tigers mentor asked for, and has just been granted, a release from his coaching contract by GlobalPort, the outfit that recently acquired Powerade's PBA franchise.

Perasol was the first choice of the search committee tasked to find the replacement for current Blue Eagles head coach Norman Black, who will be leaving at the end of UAAP Season 75 to once again coach in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was already offered the job.

I expect Ateneo to make a formal announcement soon, although even without it Perasol has been seen around the team. He wore blue to the Ateneo-La Salle game last month and was photographed sitting in the Blue Eagles' side of the arena, fueling speculations that he will indeed be the one calling the shots next year. He has also gone on record as saying, "I don’t think, right now, that there’s going to be a better program than Ateneo and I want to be a part of that."

  1. Interesting how Coach Bo will fit in the varsity and the Ateneo community. He made the All-Filipino with a chuck full of shooters and less skilled big men. The question is, how can he adjust with the playing style of the UAAP?

    1. "If I’m going to have that opportunity, the right management, the right support, I think I have what it takes to lead Ateneo." –Bo Perasol

He's a pro coach; I have no doubt he'll adjust…eventually. The bigger question is, Will he be able to adjust fast enough to satisfy the Ateneo community?

  2. Ang hapot "Will he be able to WIN enough to satisfy the Ateneo community."

Natuod na ang community sa at least top two spots sa Final 4 and/or at least finals appearance. Pero next year na kita ma-problema kaiyan.

    Musta na Borce?

    1. Ruuuss! Marhay man, yaon pa nanggad igdi sa Yobags. "Doctor" na an ia-apod ko saimo? Dati kaya "Master" lang.

Basta aram ko, no margin for error an masunod na coach. Kung UE ngani na mayong lineup tinanggal si CodiƱera one-and-half years pa lang, Ateneo pa?

    2. Haha. At least dapat mas maghaloy man sya keysa sa pag-coach ni Sandy Arespacochaga.

Dai pa ako tapos. pero harani na. overdue na ako ning duwang taon. haha.

Kung makauli ako dyan sa Pasko garo gusto ko magpa-Baguio biski pirang aldaw lang. Ma-experience man lang ang Baguio hospitality.

    3. Suuure. 'Pag makaabot ka igdi ako an tour guide mo, haha.

Sa hiling ko mas mahaloy talaga an masunod na coach. Remember, the Blue Eagles were in transition in 2004: Joel Banal was gone after the 2003 season, and while Norman Black was already under contract, he probably needed time to install his system.

An solusyon, interim head coach si Sandy sa Season 67 tapos ma-take over si Norman in 2005. I don't think it was ever intended for Arespacochaga to be head coach beyond that one year.

Pero hula ko lang 'yan, haha.
