UAAP Season 72 Eliminations: ADMU Game 1 Preview

Moments from now the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles will make their Season 72 debut against the FEU Tamaraws. I have butterflies in my stomach. The Blue Eagles are the underdogs in this game despite being the defending champions. It's easy to see why: they can field the league-best five of Jai Reyes, Eric Salamat, Nonoy Baclao, Ryan Buenafe, and Rabeh Al-Hussaini but that's about it. The rest of the names on the Ateneo bench don't exactly strike fear. FEU, meanwhile, is coming off a great preseason. They won the 15th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open Cup in March and the 2009 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Manny V. Pangilinan Cup in mid-June. Leading Tamaraws Mark Barroca, JR Cawaling, and Aldrech Ramos also played for the PBL PG Flex Unity Cup-winning Oracle Residences Titans and the Smart Gilas Pilipinas national developmental team that competed abroad. Be that as it may, “To be the man, you've got to beat the man.” And until another team knocks them off their perch in September, the Blue Eagles are the man.
