UAAP Season 71 Final Four: No Class
I only caught the last quarter of the FEU-La Salle game last Sunday but the little I saw was very entertaining. Hats off to the Green Archers for the come-from-behind victory. Their poise and experience really spelled the difference. However, there was an on-cam incident that left a bad taste in my mouth. While FEU's Mac Baracael was attempting—and missing—two potentially game-tying free throws with seconds to go, a La Salle player (L.A. Revilla?) was shown celebrating with finger guns. Those who followed this season's basketball tournament would remember that a few weeks into the season Baracael was shot by still-unknown assailants. He missed a number of games. A fellow Tamaraw who was with him during the shooting even quit the team out of shock (or perhaps fear) over the incident. Baracael's valiant return to the FEU lineup three weeks ago for his team's Final Four push is therefore one of the Season 71's feel-good stories. So for that La Salle player to make those gestures was uncalled-for. It was disrespectful and unsportsmanlike, to say the least. Notice that I didn't use "thoughtless." Because really, that would be redundant.
