Too Old For Rock And Roll

Two nights ago I told J I stopped smoking because of the Linkin Park song "Breaking the Habit" (key lyrics: I don't know how I got this way/I know it's not alright/So I'm breaking the habit/I'm breaking the habit/ Tonight).

Pathetic, he said.

But yesterday he pulled off a summoning charm Hermione would be envious of and scored a pair of front-row tickets to last night's Linkin Park concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines open grounds.

I'm not really a Linkin fan (tsibog sila sa Slipknot o kaya sa Korn) but since the tickets were free...

There were a lot of people, most of whom were under twenty, and they knew all the lyrics! Kami chorus lang, minsan mali pa. But nobody minded (or heard). We left the slam-dancing to the kids, though, and the flashing to the brave lady out in front.

Linkin Park sure knows how to make shout-along choruses. After ninety minutes and eighteen songs, our ears were ringing. It was a baptism of melodic noise.
